Ah, yes. I just got rid of 70% of my belongings, about two months ago. I went from being able to fill a 10x10x5 (10x10, five feet high, solid) space to the edges, to having a stack approximately 2x6x2.5. I wish I had a before picture, but I have an after one here:
Life, mostly. I'm graduated and I want to go somewhere new. Fresh start and all. Selling lots and lots of stuff is the first step toward... simplifying and changing.
Aha. Have you been to SF before? It's quite a shift from DC (where I have lived, albeit only for a total period of about 2.5 cumulative months).
Yep, simplifying your life is almost always a worthy goal. Getting rid of 70% of my belongings was an exercise in simplicity. The next exercise will be one in patience, as I will by away from my partner for an entire year, approximately 8,000 miles away (I believe). However, even before that, I will be simplifying things down to a backpack, my camerabag, and two large duffle bags, for a year. I'm not getting rid of everything else, but I won't have access to it.
Also, I have moved 14 times in 6 years (several times more than 2000 miles distance), and so I'm quite experienced, if you would like advice.
I may very well grab some of the books, but I'll have to go through that entry when I have time to double check comments to make sure no one else had laid claim to what I want.
