You know, all this hype about Cheney shooting his rich Republican attorney friend has been amusing. Partially because part of me says "Who cares?" I mean, seriously. I'm about as liberal as they get, and I don't think that Cheney deliberately shot his 78-year-old friend from his waist to his face with birdshot. Come on guys. Cheney is way more subtle than that. If he wanted someone dead, he'd talk someone into doing it. Someone gullible. Someone he could control without the slightest effort. He wouldn't just... shoot the man. The 78-year-old man. In the face. So why is the media covering it? Boredom? Are they so starved for excitement that when a mere hunting accident - in which the Vice President of the United States of America shot a 78-year-old man in the face with a gun - came across their desk, they had to cover it 24/7? It's silly. Isn't there a war or a genocide or something going on somewhere*?

But despite the fact that I think it's silly how much the media is paying attention to this matter, I'm still glad. Why? Because The Daily Show can come up with pant-wettingly hilarious material about it. It's so easy, it practically does itself. Kind of like shooting domestic birds. Except, you know, minus the shooting the 78-year-old man in the face while trying to shoot said domestic birds.

Anyway, if you missed it, watch some of The Daily Show material. It's absolutely hysterical.

On another note, I am also amused by the fact that this morning's Yahoo news headline (which I see when I check my email) was this: White House Finds Humor in Hunting Mishap. When I got back from work, it was this: Man Shot By Cheney Has Mild Heart Attack.

Ha ha. Ha.

* could that be why Cheney shot the guy...?
