I am really, really happy at how well Cordelia is being developed in Angel. Honestly, this whole show is fantastic. It's really different than Buffy, but it still great and I love it.

abstinence doesn't work
Cordelia: Why is it always virgin women who have to do the sacrificing?

Wesley: For purity, I suppose.

Cordelia: This has nothing to do with purity. This is all about dominance, buddy. You can bet if someone ordered a male body part for religious sacrifice, the world would be atheist like that. *snaps fingers*

I...

There are no words.

There are no words for how amazing this series is.

There is nothing that I could possibly say to pay adequate tribute to it, or Joss Whedon.

As Sarah and I sat and watched the final episode of the final season, I was filled with this overwhelmingly strange sensation.

So often I watch TV shows and movies and the female characters are... well, they're predictable, or sidekicks. At best. Or at worst, they're horrific stereotypes - shrieking, backstabbing shrews, or weak and weepy. Useless. I've almost become desensitized to it. Aware, but desensitized.

But not this time.

cut for spoilers )

It's unfamiliar because I never see that. Not really. And as I sat there, tears running down my face, heart swelling in my chest, I recognized what I was feeling.

It was gratitude.

Thank you, Joss Whedon. Thank you for this series. Thank you for you amazing female characters, your brilliant feminist message. Thank you for all of your characters, your sense of humor, your stories. Thank you thank you thank you. So much.

Now, it's off to watch Angel.

PLEASE EXCUSE ME WHILE I DANCE AND SING AND CRY AND ALSO SQUEE.

The moon to the tide / I can feel you inside / I’m under your spell / surging like the sea / wanting you so helplessly / I break with every swell / lost in ecstasy / spread beneath my willow tree

After I broke up with Casey, Sarah and I took an unintentional hiatus from Buffy, since we didn't have access to the DVDs anymore, and she went away for a bajillion years on holidays with her family. In the interim, I stuffed myself silly with Six Feet Under, Dexter, Wonderfalls, Flight of the Conchords, Jericho, etc.

Now that she's back, we started getting Buffy on DVD again. In two full day marathons (complete with rum drinks), we blew through Season 4. We're trying to decide whether or not to go with Angel Season 1 next, or to continue on to Season 5.

My thoughts on Season 4 (cut for spoilers):

ZOMG )

God, this is such an amazing show. Love it. Love love love.
