Early Thursday morning, Kelli drove me to the Metro station. I proceeded to ride the most packed train I have ever encountered in my entire life all the way to Reagan National. Despite the fact that the train C-R-A-W-L-E-D almost the entire way, I got to the airport with tons of time to spare. I checked my luggage, went through security, called my parents to let them know I was all right, and read until it was time for my flight.
I love flying. I love moving to the end of the runway, the rumbling motion deep in the belly of the plane, the power of the acceleration that I somehow always feel beneath my breastbone and between my legs.
When I was young, I was afraid of flying. I had horrific images in my mind of my plane spiraling from the sky like a shot bird, descending gracefully like a whirlygig in autumn before crashing into the ground in a fiery explosion.
I have lost that fear. And now, when my plane leaves the ground, and the ground and cars and buildings and people become smaller and stranger and more unreal and everything looks fuzzy, my impulse is not toward fear, but awe. I love window seats. I want to touch the earth from my seat. The sky! The sky! We rise above the clouds. I'm flying.
That was the flight.

Will my US driver's license be valid in Canada?
Also: what's this poutine I keep hearing about?
*edit*
More things I am thinking about:
Will I be able to use my cell phone without racking up crazy charges? I probably should call my provider, yes?
Also: things I should experience while in Canada. Discuss!

Last night, while watching La Promesse (a French film), I had a thought.
Wow. I didn't realize I spoke French so well. I understand absolutely everything that's going on. Where'd I pick up all this French?
I had this thought for a solid minute before realizing that I was just reading the English subtitles.
... yeah.
... yeah.
Tonight was nice. I TAed, then went to Clyde's for AU night with Shannon, Carmen Cain, Katie, Anne, and Sarah. It was an awesome time. I love my friends.
And now I'm home and watching horrifying Canadian public service announcements. WTF Canada?
... I was just kidding about the WTF part. They're very effective ads. Just... startling and scary and violent. As they should be.
Oh, and one more thing! I'm featured (along with my fellow photographers) on the SOC website here! Find my pictures and I'll give you an e-cookie.
